The city designates the Public Library as a cooling center this week

The city of Elliot Lake has designated the public library as a cooling center as a heat wave sweeps through the county this week. Yesterday, the city informed the public that the Masonic Lodge will be open to the public as a cooling center from today through Thursday.

A weather alert issued by Environment Canada warns of possible humidex readings of 36 to 42 before cooler air moves into the region on Thursday.

The full text of today’s notice from the City of Elliot Lake follows:

Cooling Center at the Elliot Lake Public Library until June 21.

The City of Elliot Lake has established the Public Library as a community cooling center until the end of the day on Friday, June 21, 2024. There is an Elliot Lake public transit stop at this location.

The library is located at 45 Hillside Dr. South. The opening hours are as follows:

  • Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 4:50 pm
  • Saturday from 10am to 4pm
  • closed on Sundays

No food or drinks are allowed in the library, although water fountains are provided. Keep an eye on the city’s website or Facebook page for further updates.
